Yes! Your Child Is A Genius!

Author: Elaine Mak

Most parents and children get nervous when the word ‘test’ is mentioned. While tests may be useful in some ways to measure how well or not, a child is doing, it does have its drawbacks. Too much emphasis on test results can place an artificial age barrier on children’s individual abilities.

The idea that a child’s ability to learn is age dependent is a relatively new one in human history. If, for instance, we go back to the Middle Ages we see that age and ability were thought of differently at that time. Elizabeth I, one of the most famous and successful queens in European history was an accomplished philosopher, historian, politician, and multi-lingual before her teens. There is absolutely nothing in research to say that children are not s capable today.

Who then is best placed to say what a child is or is not capable of understanding or learning at any given age – us, armed with a bunch of education statistics, or them? Any parent who has spent hours trying to sort out how the video recorder works only to have their five-year fix it for them in under 10 seconds, knows exactly what I mean. A child does not know that something is too complex for them until we tell them that it is. If we pre-condition them into thinking their abilities are somehow determined by their age, then we are putting the brakes on them before they even got started. We are presuming that we know the limits of what they are capable of, and when they will be able to achieve it. Well-meaning or not, in a more scientific way this is exactly what ability tests do. If they were not based on preset expectations and markers on ability, what is considered simple or complex, they would not function as tests at all.

One of the things to note is that IQ does not equate ability. The specific role of IQ tests is to measure intelligence in some way. People with high IQs are not necessarily the academic types. They may or may not have a degree and they are found in all walks of life, including but certainly not only, academia.

There is certainly more than one kind of intelligence. In the 20th century, the research of Professor Howard Gardner, at the Harvard Graduate School of Education questioned the established idea that intelligence came in just one form that could be measured in an IQ test and that was that. Gardner’s theory of Multiple Intelligences suggests that there may be at least seven different kinds of intelligences in humans, ranging from mathematical/logical to kinaesthetic (finely-tuned motor control and co-ordination). For example, a successful footballer might have kinaesthetic intelligence. A successful entrepreneur might have mathematical/logical intelligence. You may know or be aware of someone who is a successful entrepreneur and footballer all at the same time. In which case, they would have to have both kinaesthetic as well as mathematical/logical intelligence.

Whatever kind of intelligence your child may be gifted in, it is always a good idea to start as soon as possible to train his young brain. There are home-based training programs available to help busy parents take just minutes a day to bring out the best in their children. The effects of which are cumulative and the benefits will last a lifetime. You can teach your child to read or learn math from as little as 2 months old (yes, your baby can read). Early child education is now more popular than ever and is gaining worldwide recognition. The earlier your child starts learning, the better will be the effects of such early childhood development program, like learning math or reading A child genius may be born, but who is to say you cannot develop your own child to be a genius?

WHAT IS BEDWETTING?

Author: Dr. Ripudaman Singh

WHAT IS BEDWETTING?

Enuresis is the medical name for the involuntary passing of urine and the most common form of enuresis, ie that which occurs at night, simply referred to as bedwetting.

Approximately 15 to 20 per cent of all five- and six-year-olds wet the bed and it is more common among boys. With teenagers, the figure is 2 to 3 per cent up to 14 years and 1 per cent at 15 years and over. Frequent bedwetting is common in children up to the age of six. The child should not be put under pressure if younger than six - children do not wet the bed on purpose.

The medical definition of nocturnal enuresis is bedwetting over the age of five years. Primary nocturnal enuresis is when a child has never developed complete night-time bladder control. Secondary nocturnal enuresis is when a child suffers bedwetting after having been continually dry for more than six months.

In a significant minority of children who wet the bed no reason can be found.

Often it is passed on through the family. About 70 per cent of children who wet their beds either have a brother, sister or a parent who has experienced the same problem. Studies have localised a genetic predisposition to this condition.

It may have a medical, social or psychological cause such as constipation, kidney disease, cystitis, diabetes, sensitivity to certain food or food additives; and problems at school, at home, or the divorce of parents.

One explanation could be that these children are heavy sleepers who do not wake up when their bladder is full. Also, some children develop bladder control later than others.

At night, some children produce too little of the antidiuretic hormone (ADH), which controls the production of urine. Tablets containing desmopressin (eg Desmotabs) may help. The child needs to be examined by a doctor who will then decide whether treatment is necessary.

HOW CAN HELP CHILD in BEDWETTING?

Author: Dr. Ripudaman Singh

HOW CAN HELP CHILD in BEDWETTING?

Try using a bedwetting alarm, which makes a ringing or buzzing sound or vibrates if the child wets the bed. These are successful in curing the condition in 70 per cent of cases.

The alarm is very effective because it makes your child wake up as soon as the first drop of urine hits the underwear or the sheet. Your child is thus made aware that they are urinating and what it feels like when their bladder is full.

There are different kinds of alarms. Some have a copper net which is placed under the sheet. The net is connected to a bell, which will go off as soon as the first drop of urine hits the sheet. Others have a small sensor, which is placed in the pants, and is also connected to a bell.

Both your GP and the local children’s continence nurse will be able to advise you on obtaining an alarm. The alarm is often required for up to five months to achieve success, being used for a minimum of three weeks following the child’s last wet night.

It is possible to use drugs and an alarm at the same time and this has been shown to be beneficial in some cases.

Do not make the bedwetting a big issue in the family. Most children are embarrassed about wetting the bed, so it will help if the family support the child and show a positive attitude. Don't get angry with the child or punish them if they wet their bed. This could only make matters worse.

Let the child know that many other children do it too. If someone in the family has had the same problem, tell the child about it. Knowing that others have been affected in the same way will help a child deal with the problem.

Make sure the child doesn't drink very much during the two hours prior to bedtime. There is still no guarantee that the child will not wet the bed, but it may help.

Ensure the child goes to the toilet before getting into bed. Protect the bed by using a waterproof mattress, or a fitted waterproof mattress cover under the bottom sheet. This must be fastened securely to prevent any danger of suffocation. Place clean nightclothes and sheets next to the bed so the child can change if they wake up.

Let the child change the sheets; not as a punishment, but in order to learn to deal with the problem. It will also make the child more aware of the situation. If the child is in agreement, keep a calendar or diary and mark dry nights with a star. Praise the child when he or she wakes up in the morning without having wet the bed. Encouragement is often the most helpful way of dealing with the problem.

Some children take longer than others to achieve night-time dryness - initially having maybe one or two dry nights a week and gradually building up the number of dry nights over the following months.

However, if your child is persistently wet every night for a week or two he or she may not be ready to become dry. In this case, as a temporary measure, you may wish to use absorbent night-time pants rather than going back to using nappies. You could then try again in about three to four months.

Many parents have been told to wake the child in the middle of the night and make them go to the bathroom. Studies show that the positive effect of this is almost non-existent, since the child does not wake up by him or herself because of the need to urinate.

It may take weeks or months before there is any change. Training a child will take time, so patience is required from all involved. Most children naturally stop wetting the bed eventually. Do not be embarrassed to discuss further options with your doctor or health visitor if none of the above suggestions appear to be effective.

How to buy an amber teething necklace

Author: amberartisans

Genuine Baltic amber is almost, literally, a timeless remedy for relieving pain and discomfort in adults and children. Over many centuries, Amber teething necklaces have increased in visibility and popularity in Europe and Asia and are now being discovered, appreciated and highly valued by parents all over the world as a substitute for pain medicine. Here are the most important steps to follow when you want to purchase an amber teething necklace.

*Shop for an amber teething necklace from reliable vendors you can trust. Be certain that it is real Baltic amber - over 45 million years old and NOT copal or any other cheap replica product.

*Be certain that the product is Baltic amber from the Baltic Region. Baltic amber has some of the highest concentrations of succinic acid found in nature, and this is what makes it so special. Succinic acid is a natural component of plant and animal tissues, and it's presence in the human body is beneficial in many ways.

*Genuine Baltic Amber and “deep discount” do not belong in the same sentence together or in any advertisement for Genuine Baltic Amber. Genuine amber is really priceless…a slowly disappearing miraculous material that can never be created by nature the same way. If you think of the maturation process for amber and the fact that it took 45 million years to wash up on the shores of the Baltic Sea, there is no way you can believe “discount”. Also, the process that is used to carefully mine amber from the Sea is days long as is the process of preparing the amber to create the gems that will be used to make your child’s teething necklace. From those hands, amber craftsmen take even more days carefully polishing the stones to ensure their comfort when they are strung together in the timeless tradition of Lithuanians for many generations. If we’re being realistic, you can see there is a huge difference between the fake and the real Amber. Which one would you trust your child to wear?

* Look for softly rounded amber beads so that they lay comfortably against the child’s skin. This allows maximum skin contact and gives added comfort to your child.

* Amber teething jewelry is made for wearing not for chewing. Children should be supervised at all times when wearing jewelry, and it should be removed when child is sleeping or unattended!

Swaddle blankets or baby blankets – what’s the difference?

Author: Andre Savoie

Sometimes this is simply a case of parents needing a little practice learning something new – but other times the problem is having the wrong “tool” for the job. Properly swaddling a baby without a blanket designed for swaddling can be difficult and potentially dangerous.

Compare Swaddle Blankets and Baby Blankets:

Safety There are 2 primary areas of safety concerns for parents who swaddle their children. The first is overheating and the 2nd is having a blanket that does not allow any movement for the child.

Swaddle blankets are designed for swaddling with safety in mind. They are typically made of lightweight, breathable fabric to prevent overheating and are designed to be stretchable allowing parents to safely swaddle them. Baby blankets may not have these features. And while most baby products are flame resistant the fabric may not be breathable or stretchable to make it suitable for swaddling. Also some generic baby blankets may be made to provide warmth with thicker fabric and this is definitely not recommended for swaddling.

Design – Swaddle blankets tend to be square or rectangular and oversized which allows for wrapping the baby multiple times and neatly tucking in the fabric to complete the process. Baby blankets, by contrast, can come in any shape or size and are not always suitable for swaddling.

Material – Swaddle blankets often feature specially designed fabric that prevents overheating and stretches when necessary. The best blankets will feature specialty fabrics such as muslin cotton which allows air to flow seamlessly through the material to help regulate temperature.

Pediatric research suggests that swaddling your infant for the first few months makes for an easier transition from the womb and can greatly reduce fussiness in babies who take more time to adjust to their new surroundings. Don’t get caught trying to learn this valuable soothing technique with a blanket that isn’t designed for the job. Take your time and choose a blanket designed for swaddling that comes from a company that can help you learn how to use it.

Child Behavior Suggestions - Cleaning up their Mess

Author: Paul Banas

Are you tired of your kids acting like royalty around the house? Making a mess of their rooms as they throw away their clothes and food, expecting you to go picking after them?

Enough is enough - pull yourself out of the mess by teaching your toddlers to help. Its time for Operation Clean Up! As a parent, the following steps will certainly help with the clean up:

  • STEP 1: Make an announcement. Let your toddlers know that it's time to clean up. Give them a specific place to put the toys - a plastic tub or a toy box will do fine. Place the container in the middle of the room.
  • STEP 2: Using a loud voice, say "Look at this huge mess. Is there anyone who can help me?" as you are setting the container down. A toddler’s attention tends to pick up this tone. You can also make up and sing a cleanup song to get them into the swing. Remember to be happy and positive about the task.
  • STEP 3: By means of demonstration, pick up some toys on the floor and place them in the container. All the while you can continue with the singing and coaxing.
  • STEP 4: Now is the time to ask your children to (please) pick up a specific toy. Thank them when they start placing toys in your hand or in the container.
  • STEP 5: Always keep a back-up plan, as a consequence for not helping. Give them a timeout or better still, you can threaten to take away one of their treasured items till they start cleaning up.
  • STEP 6: Warn the toddlers only once and then follow through with the consequence they don’t help.
  • STEP 7: Continue cleaning up the toys until all of the toys are picked up.

Caring for Your Cloth Diapers- A How To Guide

Author: Rachel Martin

The worry that you are going to ruin your cloth diapers is common among users. You have found the wonderful fluffy diapers and you want to keep them for a long time to come. There are some basic rules to follow when washing and using your cloth diapers to give you the best performance and longest life.

First things first, prewash.

When you get your diapers home the first thing you need to do is make them ready for use. Most cloth diapers need to be washed a full cycle before use. Knickernappies Disposanots Pocket diapers and inserts are ready to use but most other diapers are not. The natural oils of the materials need to be washed out. Hemp diapers and inserts will need to be washed 3 times separately before they are ready to be used.

Pick the right detergent

Having the right detergent will be the foundation of your diapers best performance and long life. Do not use detergents with additives such as brighteners, enzymes, and fabric softener. All these things will cause build up in your diapers.

Use the right creams

You go to change your baby and you see a small amount of redness on your baby’s bottom. Your first reaction might be to reach for the Desitin. But don’t do it! Tecnimed Thermofocus Infra-Red Thermometer: a Revolution in Home Health-Care

Author: anothercold1

Thermofocus Infrared Thermometer is the first and only infrared thermometer for use in the home. It has been tested in medical professional environments around the world, with positive reviews. Utilising technology previously used in industry to test for hotspots in electrical systems and weaknesses in manufactured metals, it is the first practical application of such technology in the home.

The Technology On their homepage, Tecnimed, the manufacturer's of the Thermofocus, describe its technical and scientific advances as thus: Thermofocus collects at distance the infrared emissions that all the objects and the living beings diffuse in relation with the body's superficial characteristics and in a bigger proportion when the body temperature is high.

Thermofocus takes the body temperature on the forehead. The forehead is the perfect place where to take the temperature because it is supplied by the temporal artery, that receives blood from the aorta and the carotid which ensure a significant blood flow in that area; moreover the forehead is the only part of the head in direct contact with the brain that is not covered with hair.

The brain is the most delicate organ of our body and it is the one that can be more damaged by temperature excesses.

At the same time the head is the first part of the body that changes its temperature when in a feverish state, both when fever is raising and when it is getting lower.

It is very important to know that it does not exist an only one "normal" temperature for everybody: everybody has his own temperature that varies during the day also on the basis of the person's physical or mental activities (the cry in case of a baby). Moreover, the temperature changes from area to area and it can be influenced by the external temperature and by various factors, according to the kind of measurement. Also the temperature differences between the various areas (frontal, oral, axillary, rectal, and tympanic) that are usually used for temperature measurement change from person to person.

Following the dissipation of heat that the non-protected parts of the body undergo, the normal temperature that can be taken on a person's forehead is usually lower than the one of other covered parts. For this reason, Thermofocus' internal software automatically applies a correction to give a value that is approximately comparable to the oral temperature (that is usually lower than rectal one, with a variable value between 0.3 and 0.8°C). The temperature taken with Thermofocus on the forehead of a healthy person can usually vary from 35 to 38°C, but in some cases, above all in adults and in elderly people, it can be lower than 35°C.

A person who has a forehead temperature that is usually low, will have a lower feverish state's threshold if compared to a person whose temperature is normally higher and vice versa.

For this reason, to better assess possible feverish states, it is convenient to know the temperature of every single family member, when in ideal health conditions and in the various moments of the day.

Reception within the Medical World The Thermofocus has been lauded by medicial professionals for its versatility and removal of any risk of cross-contamination:

"The Thermofocus thermometer has been the best item brought into the recovery room since I have been here. Often times when the patient is sleeping we wake them by taking their temperature. With this Thermofocus we can take the temperature as many times as needed without disturbing the patient at rest or scaring the kids thinking it will hurt. I feel every healthcare facility should have a Thermofocus for their patients." - Lilia Alonso, Nursing Staff

"...Safe, painless and accurate. Will revolutionize the health industry and make a difficult part of parenting a delight..." - Richard Lagueruela, MD

Applications Although the Thermofocus was built primarily for use in the home, it has been put to effective use in medical environments (as documented above), and in emergency situations. During the outbreak of SARS in 2002-03, its use was implemented in Asian airports as a high-speed means of testing passengers for signs of fever.

Alternative Uses within the Home The Thermofocus is also effective in other capacities within the home: it can be used to measure temperatures of food, bath water etc, as well as displaying the room temperature when not in use.

Thermofocus® is protected by following patents: MI 1.284.119, EP 0909.377, US 6.196.714, IL 127.876, JP 504.769/98, EP 1.283.983, US 7.001.066, JP 3.863.919 Other international patents pending.

Colic, Breastfeeding and Infant Nutrition - Fat is Where Its At

Author: Beverly Hansen OMalley

Colic- what a word! This little five letter words strikes fear in the hearts of most new parents and brings to mind visions of sleepless nights, and endless frustration in trying to parent the new bundle of joy. Any parent who has ever had a colicky baby would not wish the same fate on anyone. Some people think that colic only happens to formula fed babies but this is not so. Breastfeeding is not a guarantee that your baby will be free of infant colic.

What is infant colic?

Colic is simply a word that means stomach pain. In the absence of any real scientific evidence the widely held belief is that infant colic results from intestinal cramping. Estimates are that colic occurs in about 20-30% of all babies at some time or another, most commonly in the first three months of life.

How will I know if my baby has colic?

Infant colic is easily identified by the baby's behaviour especially after feeding. The baby acts like she is in pain. Crying is often accompanied by vigorous leg movements and the child may spasmodically extend her legs during a bout of crying. Sometimes she will expel gas and have green stools. The baby's crying escalates as the discomfort increases and parents and babies alike become fretful. Nothing is more distressing that a baby who cannot be consoled.

Can a breastfed baby develop infant colic?

There can be no argument that the best source of infant nutrition is your own breastmilk, but even if you are breasfeeding, colic can still occur. There is absolutely no reason why breastfeeding should be discontinued if your baby is showing signs of infant colic. There are, however, things that you can do to change your breastfeeding technique and reduce the possibility and severity of the colic.

Breastfed colicky babies are very often good eaters, and have a good healthy pattern of weight gain. Parents often say that the baby seems hungry all the time but the more she is fed the crankier she gets. Some parents misinterpret this to mean the baby is not getting enough breastmilk and in desperation may switch to formula thinking that mom does not have enough milk. This is absolutely not the case.

In fact the breastfed baby who is experiencing infant colic is probably getting too much breastmilk, and too much of the wrong kind of breastmilk.

Here's why:

When you put your baby to the breast the baby starts to suck and a hormone is released that makes the milk ducts contract and breastmilk is literally "squirted" into the baby's mouth. This is called the let down reflex and you might notice it as a slight aching that occurs within the first few minutes of the baby on the breast.

During breastfeeding the fat in the breastmilk clings to the sides of the milk ducts and is not released until the end of the feeding. Babies who have short feedings are often getting lots of the skim breastmilk (called "foremilk") and not the fat rich milk at the end of the feeding (called "hindmilk"). Because of the lack of fat hunger returns quickly.

Your colicky baby is actually getting lots of milk but the breastmilk does not have enough fat so she is not satisfied for very long.

The foremilk your baby is receiving has a high concentration of lactose and can cause intestinal cramping. Lactose is such a powerful stimulator of intestinal contractions that it is used in high concentrations for the treatment of adult constipation! Is it any wonder that the breastfed baby who gets lots of lactose in her feedings has intestinal cramping and diarrhea stools?

As a breastfeeding mom what can I do to help my colicky baby?

Your main objective will be to make sure that your baby gets more of the fat rich hindmilk. This reduces the concentration of the lactose and gives the baby the fat needed to create satiety. In other words the baby will be satisfied for longer if she gets more fat at each meal.

  • express milk before the feeding. This starts the flow of milk and reduces the amount of foremilk that the baby receives.
  • nurse only from one breast at each feeding. This makes sure that the baby completely empties the one breast and gets all of the fat rich hindmilk that lingers in the milk ducts until the end of the feeding.
  • sit your baby up. This may require changing your usual position and using the "football hold" . In the football hold the baby is held by your side facing the breast that the baby will feed from. If you are nursing on the right side, place the baby beside you, on your right side facing the right breast. Your right arm should go around the baby , along her back and hold her at the back of the head. You will need a soft pillow to create a little "seat" for the baby so that she is more upright than lying down.

If these measures do not alleviate infant colic then you could try eliminating cow's milk from your own diet. There is lots of good anecdotal evidence to suggest that some infants show signs of improvement when mother eliminates dairy products. However, try the other measures first as they are more likely to bring about the best benefits for you and your baby.

You can and should continue breastfeeding your colicky baby. There is no reason to withhold the best possible source of infant nutrition from your baby if she has infant colic. Now that you know what causes infant colic, a few simple changes in your breastfeeding technique can make all the difference.

So you've finally found the perfect babysitter but have no idea what to pay them and what the going rate for babysitting is. This is actually a common dilemma for parents. They want to pay a fair babysitting rate but they also don't want to overpay the babysitter. Fortunately there are a number of things that may be considered that should help you determine a babysitter rate based on your unique situation.

The average babysitter rate in 2009 is around $10-$11 per hour but babysitting wages can vary anywhere from $5 per hour all the way up to $18 per hour or more! The reason for such a range is due to three main determining factors: location, experience, and the number of children requiring care:

Location

Your location does play a role in determining what to pay a babysitter. Normally if you live in a large city like New York or Chicago where the cost of living is higher, babysitter rates are also typically higher when compared to smaller cities towns. Babysitting is a job like any other so babysitter rates will be affected by the location you are currently living in.

Babysitting Experience

How much experience a babysitter has is one of the most important factors in determining a babysitter rate. A teenager with little or no experience would normally earn less than an experienced adult. All other factors aside, teenagers are often happy to babysit for $5 or $6 per hour whereas an adult with a number of years experience would usually ask for least $10 per hour. It all depends on your childcare requirements and the type of babysitter you are most comfortable with.

Number of Children

Generally, the more children you have requiring a babysitter, the more effort it's going to be for a babysitter and the more money you should consider paying them. What additional wages should you pay for looking after more than one child? Again it can vary but usually around $1 or $2 per additional child is the average.

Baby Diaper Bags

Author: darren jones

Baby diaper bags are an absolutely ideal for busy moms. You don't want to be caught offhanded when out with your baby. Knowing everything that must go in the diaper bag can make all the difference in a trip out with baby. What to do with used baby diapers? Both cloth and disposable diapers can be easy to use.

Baby diaper bags are an individuals choice - you'll find one that works for you and your baby. There are large ones and small ones, and of course there are those in between. You will probably want to have at least two sizes of baby diaper bags and possibly you may even need more. You'll want to bring plenty of changes of clothing for your baby and any supplies you might need.

Even if you are breastfeeding your baby there are still lots of other things to fill your diaper bag. A larger size bag will also allow you to bring your own things along with your baby's. This might let you get away with just carrying the bag and not a purse. A medium sized bag will be better if you have lots of items. You'll want to look at baby diaper bags that still have a few compartments to them, but they won't be the massive thing you carted around with you. Room for diapers, wipes, and a change of clothing will probably be great.

Baby diaper bags are used to carry rattles, towels and blankets and many other baby necessities. For that reason, parents will want to look for lots of pockets and compartments when looking for baby diaper bags. Many baby diaper bags are designed with several pockets and flaps on the outside of the bag to allow for .

Baby diaper bags can be quite costly from the most standard and cheap diaper bags available at discount stores to high end designer baby diaper bags available at the finest boutiques. Obviously every parent who shops for baby diaper bags will have different needs and a different budget when choosing baby diaper bags, and no one brand or style will be suitable for everyone. Most new parents find that they may need several different baby diaper bags – one for travelling and one for everyday use.

Baby diaper bags are usually square, like an overnight bag for an adult, and have numerous pockets where you can organize the countless items your baby will need. Items such as the powder, creams, diapers, juices, baby foods, formula in bottles and toys all have a place to be in a baby diaper bag. Baby diaper bags come in different sizes: everyday, medium, large for multiple children or babies, and mini diaper bags. They also come in different materials and styles such as cartoon characters or patterns. If you are purchasing baby diaper bags for baby showers, you can choose yellows and greens if the sex of the baby is still a surprise. Of course, there are always the orthodox pink or blue baby diaper bags when you know the baby’s gender when making a purchase. Parents like to make sure the diaper bag matches the baby. Baby diaper bags can sometimes come with a extractable changing pad and an attached mesh bag to hold the mucky items.

Frequently you will find the changing pad is attached to the diaper bag so you don’t misplace it or leave it anywhere. There are pockets on either end of the baby diaper bags for formula or sippy cups and inside there might be a holder with flexible plastic around the top for holding additional cans or bottles of formula. Some baby diaper bags are made of heavy materials because parents enjoy change. These styles of baby diaper bags are also easily stashed under a baby carriage in the large baskets and when you carry them, they are not as heavy as some of the thicker or vinyl diaper bags.

Baby diaper bags are no longer just a bag for transporting around the items you need for your baby, they can also make a fashion statement. You can make any diaper bag a fashionable diaper bag. There are literally hundreds available; you will be surprised at what you find. Most diaper bag companies give you the option of adding patterns, initials and embroided name of your choice. The mother to be will really enjoy the diaper bag. A great hands free diaper bag is the rucksack diaper bag. Today many parents are always on the go and are searching for a convenient and easy way to carry everything they need without lugging various different bags.

Baby Gifts for the Special Baby in Your Life

Author: Nilakshi Handique

Baby gifts have an innate quality about them to put a smile on the little one's face. Baby Gifts may be of different types depending on the place, culture and occasion. Baby clothes, toys, items of utility and a baby gifts basket are the well known examples.

Baby gifts are classified into different gifting categories. Ideal baby gifts for varied set of occasions are discussed below:

Baby shower baby gifts:

Baby showers are events much looked forward to, by expectant mothers and close family members. Baby showers in India are traditional events where the would-be mother is blessed and showered with gifts. Although gifting baby gifts is not a common phenomenon in India, in the west, almost all baby shower gifts comprise utility items for the baby soon to be born. Cribs, bouncers, baby blankets and much more are included in this category.

New born baby gifts:
Baby multi gift pack comprising clothes, baby products and a fine assortment of baby care items make up this category of baby gifts.

First birthday baby gifts:

As the baby turns one, there are myriad gifting options for the little one. Not only is he more active now but is also learning new things. First birthday gifts may include learning toys, bath toys, personalized gifts, baby pillow taking shape of fruits or other attractive items and exclusive baby gift baskets. In addition to this, exclusive toys from Fischer price and Funskool make ideal gifts for a one year old.

There are several other gifts for a baby which need not necessarily be gifted on any particular occasion. An articulately arranged gift basket comprising exquisite gifts or items of utility make thoughtful baby gifts. Customized gifts are truly special as they add a personal touch to the whole process of gifting. Personalized pillows, baby blankets, feeding bottle or cup as the little one grows are ideal gifts for a baby.

Crib ornaments with a learning element like fairy tale figurines or alphabetical curios may seem ideal for a one year old. While choosing appropriate gifts for a baby, take care to choose items of utility over embellishments as items that make the baby learn are by far the most resourceful.

Baby gifts need not always be expensive as it is the though the matters. So take time to choose or get baby gifts (customized) so they not only look special but also make the baby feel truly loved and indeed very special.

Protecting your Child Against Poisoning

Author: Paul Banas

With toddlers in your home, poisoning is another potential danger you have to come to grips with. Their curiosity might induce them to ingest, or come in contact with, toxic substances that could be harmful to them.

You will be surprised to know that just about anything can be poisonous to your toddlers. Here is a simple checklist:

  • Aspirin
  • Lye
  • Drain cleaning solvents
  • Cosmetics
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Moth balls
  • Bleach
  • Washing and cleaning liquids, soap bars, powders, etc.

To make your children aware of the dangers of ingesting unknown things, there are some simple thumb rules:

  • Never call medicines or any bright-colored, small pellet, lozenge, etc. candy.
  • Keep dangerous things out of your toddlers' reach; take into account the fact that they are adventurous explorers and terrific climbers.
  • Make use of child-resistant locks, packages, etc. to stock the most dangerous things.

If any untoward incident were to happen, here are some signs that you need help:

  • Your toddlers have difficulty breathing.
  • They complain of severe throat pain or burning sensations
  • You spot burns on their lips or mouth.
  • Your children are experiencing convulsions, falling unconscious or are extremely sleepy.

In such a case, instant and immediate action could save your child. Always remember:

  • Never try to induce vomiting. If a strong acidic substance has been ingested, throwing it up could further injure children by burning their throat and mouth
  • In an emergency, call the American Association of Poison Control Centers at (800) 222-1222. You will be redirected to your local poison control center.

4 tips to Getting Baby to Sleep at Night

Author: M Jayne

We are all well aware of how quality baby sleep is an essential basis for his health and development. This is just one of the main reasons getting baby to sleep at night is a MUST in the parenting books. The pleasure in seeing a baby sleep is hardly measurable but having to see and hear him cry all night is torture for a parent.

Here is some professional and personal guidance that I used as aids on my journey to having an independently sleeping baby from 1 year old.

1. Wind your baby down. A fuss-free routine will assist in establishing your baby's sleep pattern and in turn will provide a more content child at night.

  • Choose the same time every night to put baby to bed. If you want your baby to be in bed sleeping by 8pm then begin the routine 20 minutes before eight.
  • Dim the lights and set the mood for winding down. This will let your baby know it is almost time for sleep.
  • A quiet atmosphere with little noise
  • Rock you baby or cuddle for a while. Do not feed your baby at this time. Dinner should be finished before bedtime. Ensure he has been fed before winding down time.
  • Take baby to his cot/crib, keeping lights in his room dim. Sing a lullaby, then say goodnight. If you need to stay in the room with the baby for a while do not talk to him and do not have any eye contact. Eye contact and vocal sounds from mom and dad arouses your child’s attention.
  • For a toddler you can give a bath and or a baby massage, then a story (with cuddles), then off to bed. Sing a lullaby. Then say goodnight.

The above routine, which ever you choose, MUST be adhered to every night, by any person that puts your child to bed. When you accomplish this, hassle free, parents are halfway to getting baby to sleep at night - nightmare free.

2. Lil' light, lavender and Music Lavender essential oil and music are a fabulous combination to relax and sooth the senses. Your baby is no different. Simply do the following:

  • sprinkle a FEW drops of lavender essential oil on his pillow. Take care to close the bottle tightly and put in away where baby can't reach it.
  • Play Soft, soothing music for him, preferably orchestra music. Do this before you read the story or sing a lullaby so your baby can begin to relax.
  • Put a nightlight in the baby's room so he doesn’t feel afraid as much when you are not there. Using an aquarium as a night light is an idea worth looking into. Your baby can watch the fish as he falls asleep.

3. Baby reverse psychology. This is for a baby who is old enough to understand a bit of what you are saying to him. It’s a little but it can go a long way.

  • If you decided to use a small aquarium to assist on this journey place it in an area where he can see it as he is lying down in his bed.
  • Talk to him about the aquarium and how at bedtime he can watch the fish dance to the music. Give him a 1-2 things to see or look at in the tank.
  • As you are winding him down tell him he doesn't need to sleep (reverse psychology) but instead he can watch the fish dance to the music in the water, but must stay lying down in bed. Give him little things to look for in the aquarium.
  • When you put him in his bed briefly remind him of the things to look for and the dancing fish.
  • Do not take too long with the story and/or lullaby. It should be brief but not rushed.
  • IF you notice your baby is heading toward the crying stage, while on his way to bed something you can try is to make a deal with him that you will read 2 stories instead of 1 or 2 songs instead of 1 IF he promises to stay in bed and not cry. Don’t push the words “Sleep" or that he “must go to sleep now”. You must stick to your promise and he must stick to his. Remind him of this. Once again, consistency is key to success.
  • Do not let your baby see or feel you get agitated or affected by his crying. Often when a child sees this it tells him his parents might weaken and allow him to get away with things. If you have to, step away for a minute and take a breather. Be sure your baby is in a safe place while you do this.
  • 4. Afternoon Snooze. Babies and naptime go hand in hand. A baby that has a nap in the afternoon is better rested for the remainder of his busy day. He will eat better, listen better and learn better. He will have more positive energy and be a lot less cranky. But this tip also enables your child to sleep better at night because his body and brain are not on overload, yet tired enough to fall asleep at the routine time mom and dad put him to bed.

With the above professional advice and personal tips, getting baby to sleep at night is one step closer. Remember, consistency is the key to making this task successful. All participants must adhere to the same above practices and be diligent but gentle and patient.

Baby Showers: What Type of Gift Should You Get?

    Author: Mary Westbrook

Baby showers are parties that celebrate a couple's newborn or expected baby, and they're extremely popular in Western countries. They're also gaining popularity in other parts of the world, and while some customs and traditions may vary, the couple always receives gifts from friends, relatives, and well-wishers during the party.

Getting invited to a baby shower is always delightful, but the thought of buying a gift may be a little scary for some people, especially if they don't know very much about the couple and expected baby. How can you be sure if they'll appreciate the gift you had in mind? This is where baby shower baskets can be useful - instead of buying a single gift item, fill a baby basket or a toy wagon with several. Pretty, well-prepared baskets make great new baby gifts, and the couple will love you for it.

Of course, putting a gift basket together can be tricky. You'll have to decide on a central theme for the basket, since a theme would help you pick out the appropriate gift items to fill it with. For instance, do you want to work with a "froggy" theme? A "sports" theme? Maybe you'd like to play on the father's occupation? The sky's virtually the limit when it comes to choosing a theme for your gift basket. Here are a few ideas to help you along.

1.) Gourmet cookies. The traditional baby shower is a woman-only affair, and sweets such as pastries, cakes, and other desserts are usually served. A basket of gourmet cookies, shaped like baby items such as bottles, rattles, and bibs, can prove to be a fun addition to the celebrant's menu. You can have these cookies baked and personalized to make your gift even more meaningful.

2.) Cigars made of chocolate. If the new baby is going to be a boy, it might also be fun to give the new or expectant mom a gift basket filled with cigar-shaped chocolate. Like gourmet cookies, they can be part of the menu for the party, and should make for some enjoyable conversation. This will also be a funny gift for an expectant mother who doesn't know the baby's sex just yet, but has implied that she wants a boy.

3.) Real cigars. Of course, not all baby-showers are for women only. Some baby showers have a separate portion of the house reserved for just the men, while some parties even have the men and women mixed together. When the men are around, a basket filled with some really good cigars can be a great way to celebrate the little guy, and the father would appreciate the gesture very much. Just make sure not to smoke in the same room as the baby boy!

4.) "Bookworm" basket. When you'd rather prepare a gift basket for the new baby, it's a thoughtful gesture to include books in the basket, even if the new baby won't be reading them until after a few years. We all know that children who are exposed to books at an early age are more likely to lead successful, happy lives, so preparing a "bookworm" themed basket is always a great idea.

It's also a good idea to use books that the parents themselves used to enjoy in their youth. These days, books by Dr Seuss (The Cat In The Hat) and Charles Shulz (Peanuts) are both highly-prized and highly-appreciated. If you give the gift basket during the baby shower, don't be surprised if they open it right away, placing the bookworm doll (usually a long, very colorful stuffed toy) in the baby's crib and opening the books for the guests. It'll be a very nostalgic party!

5.) Animal-themed gift baskets. It's never a bad idea to fill a basket with items that new babies and their parents will find useful, such as sleepwear, toys, books, and bath items. These gift baskets are easy and inexpensive to prepare, but they're a lot more fun when centered around themes - and animal themes can be some of the cutest themes you can think of.

An example of an animal theme would be a "froggy" theme. Put in a few stuffed frogs, some froggy sleepwear, some green-and-white towels, and maybe even a personalized "froggy" storybook. You can use the same guidelines to prepare a "bear" theme, a "puppy" theme, a "ducky" theme... the possibilities are only limited by your imagination and creativity.

6.) A welcome wagon. Instead of using a basket, you can instead use a toy wagon and fill it with items the new baby and their parents would find useful. A welcome wagon has its own advantages over a basket - the wagon itself can be used as a toy as the new baby gets older. It's also easier to sport a "guy" theme - such as with "Go Team!" baby shower baskets - with a welcome wagon. (This is obviously a great idea when both parents are avid fans of a professional sports team!)

7.) Stuffed toys. If you run out of ideas, you can always play it safe with a trio of stuffed toys placed in an appropriate basket. Stuffed toys and dolls are usually the new baby's first cribside companions, and they'll keep the little guy from getting bored too quickly. As an example of a good "stuffed toy" gift basket, fill a wicker or egg basket with farm animals, such as cows, ducks, sheep, chickens, and shaggy sheepdogs. It's easy to create "jungle" and "undersea" stuffed toy gift baskets, too.

Baby showers are great occasions to give gifts and show the couple how much you really care about them and their new bundle of joy. But be careful about giving gifts before the baby shower party itself - some customs and religions think it's bad luck to give gifts before the baby is born. Otherwise, go right ahead and walk through their door with your gift basket in hand - there's no doubt they'll greet you with smiles on their faces.

Baby Boy Gift Baskets - Baby Shower Gifts for the Little Guy

    Author: Mary Westbrook

Baby showers are always great occasions to attend, and everyone loves celebrating the birth of a new baby boy. It's also customary for every guest invited to a baby shower to bring a gift for the new baby or his parents, and it can be pretty tricky to find the best possible gift to give. There's always the nagging question whether or not your gift would be appreciated, and there's also the worry of walking into the baby shower carrying the same gift as another guest.

It's easy to come up with a totally original gift for the little guy. Instead of looking for a single gift item, look for several and prepare a nice gift basket. Gift baskets contain several closely-related gift items bundled into a nice basket, which can be decorated with ribbons, gift wrappings, banners, etc. There are countless possible designs for a gift basket - all you have to do is decide what you want yours to look like.

Of course, baby boy gift baskets should look different from baskets for baby girls. It would be downright wrong to theme a basket for a baby boy with a pink color, and it's a sure way to sour the mood at any baby shower. Here are a few helpful tips to help you prepare a suitable gift basket that the parents - and all the other guests - would love you for.

Tip #1 - Try to use a masculine or neutral color. Blue is the most popular color for baby shower gifts for baby boys, but green, brown, white, and purple are acceptable colors too. Avoid pink and yellow, since they're mostly "girl" colors. Keep colors in mind whenever you shop for items like towels, sleepwear, bibs, and bottles - in other words, items that the little guy will be using for a long time after receiving them.

Tip #2 - Try using alternative containers for the gift items. While wicker baskets are the most common and acceptable kinds of containers (owing to their usefulness after the party), you can also try hampers, baby bathtubs, and wagons. Wagons make great toys when the little guy gets bigger, and you can even design your gift basket as a welcome wagon. If you're walking into the baby shower with a very young companion, you can let him/her pull the wagon into the party - it should make an interesting entrance!

Tip #3 - Don't use too much decoration on the gift basket. Using too many ribbons, gift wrapping, and other ornamentation may make the basket look a tad bit feminine, so keep it to a minimum. Baby boy gift baskets are much better presented with banners, flags, and slogans than with ribbons and buntings. Take the opportunity to decorate the gift basket with a message for the little guy - for instance, if you're planning to prepare a basket filled with star-shaped cookies, you could include the sign: "A Star Is Born!"

Tip #4 - Stuffed toys are actually fine. Some might argue that stuffed animals are for baby girls only, but they make for good cribside company for the little guy. Certain animals, such as "jungle" animals like lions, giraffes, and hippos, are very suitable for a baby boy's crib. But it might be a good idea to fill the gift basket with stuffed sports items, such as small basketballs and footballs, instead. To make it more fun, give your gift basket a theme that matches the parents' sports preferences.

Tip #5 - When giving "baby" items like shampoos, talcum powder, and baby lotion, try to be a little extra thoughtful and fill your basket with "travel-sized" bottles. This would be a gesture to the new parents to go out and take the little guy out every now and then. Any parent would appreciate the idea that they don't have to be cooped up in the house.

Tip #6 - If you want to make things a little extra special for the new mom and dad too, don't be shy about throwing in a bottle of wine or some good apple cider (if the mother is nursing). Taking care of a new baby boy is hard work, and the new parents would appreciate a little something to enjoy at the end of the day.

Remember, though, that many baby showers take place a little before the baby boy is born. In such baby showers, it's also a good idea to include some gift items for the mother in your gift basket. Naturally the mother is going to be sitting still for most of the time, she'll appreciate a good book or two. If you can find books that will help make the waiting a little more bearable, then you'll definitely be doing her a favor.

Most baby showers have themes to them, so an invitation should clue you in on what the party's going to be like. You can make things a little more fun by preparing your gift basket in the same theme as the baby shower, too.

Preparing a gift basket for a new baby boy can be fun, and it's pretty easy to come up with a pretty one. But if you think you don't have that creative streak in you, you can go ahead and buy a baby boy gift basket off the shelf. Many gift basket shops have some pre-made baskets specifically made for a new baby boy or his expectant parents. For a little extra cash, these gift basket shops can even prepare, customize, and personalize the gift basket to make it more memorable.

It's also a shame when you realize the baby shower is scheduled on a date and time when you're unavailable. Besides missing a great party, the parents of the little guy will definitely miss you. But that's okay - you can still have a nice basket prepared by a basket shop, and then ask them to deliver it to the new parents' doorstep. It would be best if they can deliver the basket during the baby shower itself - it'll be a very welcome surprise.

Help Baby Sleep through the Night - 8 Ways make it possible

    Author: The Parent Fairy

As parents we are aware that quality sleep is an essential part of a child's growth and well being. Most baby sleep disorders are a learned behavior. These can be overcome by changing the child's environment before bedtime to help baby sleep through the night.

Addressed here are eight ways to help Mom, Dad and Baby have a good night sleep for days to come.

    1. A bedtime Routine. Babies and infants are creatures of habit. They enjoy the predictability of a sleep ritual so a regular bedtime routine will help settle your baby more quickly and also increase the chances to help baby sleep through the night.

Routine helps to establish baby's sleep pattern and once it is established your baby will be happier, more content, and more likely to sleep through the night. This needs to be incorporated right away during the newborn/infant stage. However, its not late to get this routine functioning. It will become harder and take longer as your child gets older.

An example of a good routine is; Put your child in PJ's, set the mood by dimming the lights and establishing a quiet relaxed atmosphere, cuddle time with mom/dad. This is followed by baby in the cot with a story or lullabye. You could give a bath before bedtime as well, or a baby massage which babies love and parents love to do! Be consistent with the above routine. It must be done on a nightly basis until it becomes a habit for your child.

    2. Do not feed your baby to sleep. Feeding a baby to sleep can create a problem with their sleep patterns. The baby will soon begin to recognize that you feed him or her at bedtime. This will become something they depend on and expect. This is the same issue with waking up at night as well.

There are a couple of ways to deal with making this change.

    • Firstly, change the time or the amount of time you feed your baby when nearing his or her bedtime. Doing so will gradually remove the association of bedtime with feeding.

    • Another option is to feed your child earlier in the evening instead of as a bedtime routine. When you do these things your baby will not associate feeding with bedtime. This will help your baby to learn to fall asleep on his or her own accord.

    3. Bottle and breast feeding. Childcare professionals believe that combining formula bottle feedings and breast feedings can lead to sleep problems and works against the ways used to help baby sleep through the night.

With breast feeding the milk supply is replenished naturally by the breast with each feeding that takes place. When formula milk via a bottle is given instead of breast milk, the breast milk supply can lesson. So with the next breast feeding, there may not be much milk supply as previously. With this, your baby will require more frequent feedings and this is why he will wake up during the night, possible several times for a feeding. Of course, infants need to be woken up and fed every few hours but once this stage passes, your baby is able to go through the night without having to be fed, provided his appetite is satisfied in his last feeding before bed.

    4. Be aware of when your child is getting tired. You can recognize this when they pull their ears and rub their eyes.

    5. Teach your baby how to self-sooth to sleep. You can achieve this by associating soothing objects with bedtime (child safety proof of course!) Give your baby or let him choose a toy or favorite blanket to take to bed. This way when your baby wakes up during the night he could reach for it and go back to sleep. This a hot tip to help baby sleep through the night.

    6. Feed your baby enough during the day. If your baby wants to play all day and not eat enough, he will want to eat during the night instead of sleep. Ensure that while he is playing and having fun he eats a nutritious diet.

    7. Create a daily nap time routine. The sooner you start this the better. A nap helps your child sleep firmer at night. The nap should be timed appropriately to his bedtime so your child has time to play, do other things and have dinner well before bedtime.

    8. Childcare provider training. If you have a childcare provider also responsible for putting your child to bed ensure they are following the same routine and rules you are. If there is inconsistency in the routine the procedure will take longer to take effect and your child will not be consistent with his bedtime behavior.

Parents all over the world struggle with learned baby sleep disorders. You are not alone, as many of us have walked before you. Much patience is required. Consistency is a must. It takes time so do not expect miracles overnight but throughout your journey you and your baby can look forward to a few more nights of sleep by utilizing the eight tips above, until it becomes a regular process.

    Childcare Tips for the Mother-to-Be

    Author: Rendra Krestyawan, psychologist

The search for childcare ideally should begin when you discover your due date. This gives you plenty of time to research your childcare options. Depending on the type of childcare you choose, there are several items of importance to consider before selecting a provider. Are you going to need in-home care in which a single caregiver comes to your home If this is the type of care you need, be aware that many of these providers are not licensed nor are they required to be licensed. In this case it is especially important to get references from previous employers for at least 5 years. Ask for names and phone numbers; don’t hesitate to call the parents who have used their services. If the provider refuses or is unable to provide this information for you, move on. In-home caregivers may be left alone with your child, they may be unlicensed and are often costlier than other types of childcare; caution should be exercised when choosing this type of childcare.

Another option is family childcare, which is a more casual environment with a limited amount of children enrolled, and is usually less expensive than day care centers. This type of childcare requires you to drop off and pick up your child at the person’s home. Often there are charges made if you are late in picking up your child; the caregiver is more like a nine-to-five business and may strictly enforce this rule. These types of childcare providers should be licensed, and the type of care provided is left up to the individual so again, references from other parents are crucial.

Still another option is a day care center, which must be licensed. Your child will be among more children, receiving less individualized care than the previous two types of childcare mentioned. However, there are many benefits to this type longer hours of operation, less stringent rules on pick up and drop off times, and more activities with more children to interact with. The down side may be the more children your child is exposed to the more chance of illness and other problems resulting from interacting with many young children at once.

Before you have your baby is the best time for you to visit your prospective childcare providers. Take along a notepad with you; make notes of any positive or negative items you will want to check into later. Checklists provided by several websites can be printed out, using your notes for comparison. If you are going to be returning to work after maternity leave, having several providers lined up will make your intro back to work less stressful. If you are working out of your home, or work part time, it is still beneficial to have a childcare provider on call for emergencies. This would be a drop-in provider who can be called at the last minute and basically is an on-call provider. Having a drop-in childcare option will also afford you some time to get back into the routine post-baby. Even a few hours a week can give you time to do the grocery shopping, keep doctor’s appointments, have lunch with a friend or just get out of the house for an hour.

Green Baby News - The Nappy Question

    Author: Paige Green

According to 2003 figures from the Women's Environment Network, it takes on average 22,250 MJ of energy, 75,000 ha of land for raw materials and 70 cubic metres of waste water is needed to manufacture enough disposable nappies for just one infant over the course of 2.5 years. Meanwhile, Jannine Barron, founder of Nature's Child, an online retail store for natural and organic baby products, estimates that disposables can cost a family more than $3500 per child.

Cloth nappies also have a substantial impact due to the amount of water and resources it takes to launder them. A UK study done by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) indicated that under ‘average' conditions, a traditional cloth nappy had a greater environmental impact of 570 kg when compared to a disposable nappy that they measured to have an impact of 550 kg. The study highlights ‘the importance of laundry choices for re-usable nappies in cutting their impact,' said a spokesperson from DEFRA.

The study assumed that only three quarters of nappies were line dried and the remainder were tumbled in a drier. Washing nappies in fuller loads or line-drying them outdoors all the time was found to reduce impact by 16 per cent. The nappies were also assumed to be used on only one child when re-using nappies for a second child reduces the impact by another 24 per cent.
Meanwhile, modern innovations have taken nappy production to new heights. Many varieties of eco-friendly nappies are now available, such as Weenees disposable eco-pads or Eco-bots, a disposable nappy endorsed by Planet Ark, which use bio-degradable wood pulp and modified corn starch bioplastics.

The Dirty Lowdown on Disposable Nappies

Consider these sizable facts on disposable nappies:

    • Nappies are the third most common item, by volume and weight, in American, UK, European, Japanese and Australian landfills.

    • According to Choice consumer magazine, 95 per cent of Australian babies wore disposable nappies in 2007. In China, only 6 per cent do; in India, 2 per cent.
    • It takes over 10 full sized trees to produce the number of nappies your baby will use in its first couple of years.

    • Production of a single disposable nappy requires 2/3 of a cup of petroleum. This adds up to over 3 billion gallons (1134 billion litres of oil) per year dedicated to disposable nappy production.

How to Play with Your Ten Month Old Baby

    Author: Paul Banas

Babies around ten months of age will enjoy being introduced to new toys or games. This is because they become increasingly curious and variety stimulates them. Exposure to newer experiences helps their ability to perceive and understand things better.

These are some of the ways in which you can play with you 10 month old child:

    • Encourage your child to imitate what you do. Clap your hands, pull your nose, toss a ball and get your child to do these things just like you. Then start improvising on the theme. For instance, you pull your child’s nose, so that your child pulls yours.
    • Children at this age are fascinated about how things fit inside other things. Show your child how to collect assorted toys and put them into a box. Then teach your child to empty the box into another container.
    • Hide a toy inside a box or bag and encourage your child to retrieve it.
    • Teach your child to balance blocks to build a column and then give it a nudge to see it collapse.
    • Show your child how to push a ball or a toy truck along. Play a game where both of you push the toy across the floor to each other.

It is important that you remember that these play sessions are primarily meant to be enjoyed. Do not force your child to ‘learn’ at the cost of fun. Allow you’re the baby space to grow and develop. However, if you are concerned about some aspect of your child’s behavior, consult your pediatrician.
